A
quality shipyard will (as a minimum) follow the contract to the letter. As an
experienced yacht operator I can help define & sometimes help to refine
some of the interpretations of the spec. From
experience I understand the exact nature of Crew’s work & operational
problems they have experienced. before. Code
& Class compliance (MCA, SOLAS, MARPOL, Class Society etc) is usually a
contractual responsibility of the shipyard, however input from an experienced
Captain may often aid negotiations. I
have extensive knowledge of, & contact with, specialist third party
suppliers, brokers, Management Companies, Agents crew etc through my database
compiled over 12 years. Third
Party suppliers provide items ranging from yacht management software through
AV & Lighting, Fine Furniture, Tableware, Fine Art & virtually
anything else imaginable or unimaginable. Usually
such items are Owner’s supply. I
will work with the Owner, Designer, Shipyard & Naval Architect &
Supplier to specify, progress chase & facilitate purchase, design,
commissioning & installation of these items. This
too is a co-operative exercise since the subcontractors time, lead time &
logistical needs must mesh with those of the shipyard with minimum
disruption. Documenting
the build by creating equipment & operating manuals for guests & crew
may be another part of the my role, often using 3rd party contractors. This
is especially important for yachts which will charter &/or be ISM
compliant as some documents may be part of the statutorily required documents
. Designers
& Shipyards often leave certain areas of the yacht open to client
interpretation. I can provide advice & equipment specification for such
areas: often Bridge, Galley, Service (Laundry, Pantry etc.) & technical
spaces. My
operational knowledge & experience allows me to enhance ease of use &
efficiency of these spaces. I
can co-ordinate planned maintenance & parts supply packages specific to
the yacht using specialist subcontractors. |
