MAYA is a 22.5m (74 foot) Deerfoot Ketch. She was built in aluminum for the designer of Deerfoot Yachts by Walsteads Shipyard in Denmark in 1987 as a bluewater
cruiser par excellence. Likely the highest quality and specification Deerfoot
built, she has many innovative and complex systems and a stunning interior.
When I joined the yacht she was for sale, the Owner subsequently decided
against selling, choosing instead to re-fit the vessel for an extended
cruise. I Project Managed this re-fit. Accomplished in the water, using sub-contractors and
day labor. There was a significant cost benefit with no reduction in quality
compared to using a shipyard. A Shipyard was contracted only for haul out and
anti-fouling application. This six month project included replacement of the
auxiliary engine, re-design of the (very complex & extensive) hydraulic
system, enhancement and renovation of plumbing and electrical systems,
running and standing rigging and sails, replacement of engine room piping,
extensive repainting including topsides, technical and bilge areas. This re-fit was also achieved without disruption in an
environmentally sensitive area. |
